Overview

What truck windscreen replacement involves

A truck off the road is a truck not earning, which is why this work is done where the vehicle is rather than at a workshop.

Truck windscreens differ from car windscreens in more than size. Many are held in a heavy rubber locating seal rather than bonded to the body, and a good number of trucks use a two piece split screen where each half is replaced separately. Cab height also means the job is worked at a different level to a car.

We replace glass on light and medium commercial trucks and on machinery cabs, and we work around the access and safety requirements of the site we are attending.

When this service is needed

  • Stone damage from highway and site work

Trucks cover long distances and often work around loose surfaces, so windscreen damage is common.

  • A crack has spread across the screen

The large spans of glass used on trucks let a crack travel quickly once it starts.

  • The vehicle will not pass inspection

Damage in the driver’s field of view is a problem for roadworthiness, and the truck cannot stay in service with it.

  • Impact or site damage

Loading knocks, branches and site debris can break cab glass outright.

  • The seal has perished on an older truck

Once the rubber locating seal has gone hard, the screen leaks and no longer sits securely.

On the day

How the mobile service works for this job

We attend the yard, depot or worksite where the truck is parked. We need level ground, clear access to the front of the cab and enough room to handle a large piece of glass safely. Let us know when you book if the site has induction requirements, restricted hours or a gate procedure, so the visit is not held up.

    Confirm the appointment

Once the details are confirmed we agree a time and location, attend the vehicle, complete the work and check the finished fit before we leave.

Truck Windscreen Replacement — questions we are asked

Can you replace a truck windscreen at our depot?
Yes. Attending the yard, depot or worksite is the normal way we do truck work, so the vehicle does not have to be moved with a damaged screen.
Do you handle split windscreens?
Yes. Many trucks use a two piece screen where each half is replaced separately. Tell us which side is damaged when you call.
What access do you need on site?
Level ground, clear space at the front of the cab and room to handle a large piece of glass safely. Let us know about any site induction or gate procedure in advance.
Do you work on machinery cabs as well as trucks?
Yes. We replace cab glass on plant and machinery alongside truck windscreen work.
What details do you need to quote a truck windscreen?
The make, model and year of the truck, whether the screen is one piece or split, and a photo of the damage and the cab where possible.
